McTimoney Chiropractic In Towcester Town Centre
Krisha Baker is a qualified McTimoney Chiropractor, who has been an established practitioner at Towcester Clinic since 2005.
What is McTimoney chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession with the emphasis on the spine, neurological, muscular and skeletal systems, how these integrate and conditions affecting them. Chiropractors do not use medicines or surgery, but may refer back to a medical professional for further assessment if it is considered that these may be necessary based on history and examination results. In contrast to popular perception of chiropractic the light, fast and precise nature of McTimoney chiropractic adjustments make the treatment comfortable and often relaxing to receive. It is suitable for most people of all ages and fitness levels. Treatment may also include various soft tissue techniques, mobilization techniques, preventative lifestyle advice and appropriate exercises to be carried out at home.

How is chiropractic different from osteopathy?
In the main you will find that an osteopath tends to use more soft tissue work than a chiropractor (although many chiropractors, including myself, also do this) whilst a chiropractor will concentrate on bony manipulation, aiming to enhance neuromusculoskeletal function. A chiropractor will more often use short lever adjusting techniques whereas an osteopath may use long lever techniques such as exerting a pull on an arm to adjust an area in the mid back.
What can I expect from my first session ?
To begin with I will take a record of your medical history including details such as current medications, surgeries and existing medical conditions. We will discuss your area of complaint in some depth covering things such as the initiating cause, what kind of pain you are experiencing (burning, sharp, shooting, electrical, dull, aching etc), what makes it worse, what eases it ie positions, activities etc and also whether there are any other symptoms which appear to be connected.
After this I will, with your consent, perform a physical examination including appropriate neurological and orthopaedic tests. This is to give us more of an idea as to the root cause of your condition and to ensure that chiropractic is a suitable treatment. If during the history or testing I suspect that your condition requires further investigation or medical intervention I will ask you to visit your GP before we commence treatment.
The treatment itself consists of light, fast, adjustments which can be altered to the individual making them suitable for most people. Treatment may also include soft tissue and mobilisation techniques where needed.
Treatment is most often carried out in your underwear as this enables a better contact for soft tissue work but a back opening gown is available for use if you would like it. Your comfort and ease is of primary importance.
How many treatments will be needed ?
The answer to this is dependant upon a number of factors including:
- Extent of injury
- Duration of injury
- General health
- Lifestyle / stress
Between two and six sessions is usually sufficient to address straightforward problems. The anticipated number and frequency of sessions will be discussed with you prior to treatment.
