About me

Relationship problems, work issues, grief, illness and many other things can cause us anxiety and pose challenges. Sometimes, we don’t always feel in control of what’s happening, which is where counselling can help.

It’s not always easy, or indeed an option, to discuss such issues with family or friends. By working with a counsellor such as me, you are given both the time and supportive space to reveal your thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged.

Talking to someone like me can prove unburdening, and provide the objectivity and perspective you need for your problems. It can help you make sense of why you’re feeling a particular way. It can enable you to consider your thoughts and behaviours, and develop ways of coping. We cannot change our past, but we can rescript how we feel about aspects of it and move forward in a healthier, more positive way.

Finding what works best for you

I am an integrative therapist, which means that I work in a number of different ways with my clients, and can incorporate CBT techniques into therapy, or hypnotic relaxation processes, or work in a client-centred or psychodynamic way. The talking therapy is all about you, and what works best for you.

One of the most crucial things about a client/therapist relationship is finding someone you feel comfortable talking to, I cannot overestimate how important that is to the success of your sessions. Our initial meeting gives you that opportunity to decide to if you want to work with me. Ring me now on 07927 340051 for an informal, obligation-free discussion.

I am an accredited counsellor, psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, and have worked in private practice since qualifying in 2010. I volunteered for a national bereavement charity for nine years. I now additionally work for a charity supporting people with life-limiting illnesses. I am also a trustee for a charity that uses cycling to support people recovering from mental health issues.

Counselling/psychotherapy

I am counsellor and psychotherapist, accredited by the National Counselling Society and bound by its code of ethics. Counselling tends to be seen as a more short-term intervention, typically 6-18 weeks, focusing on a specific issue. Psychotherapy, however, is more long term, addressing issues built up over time. Since qualifying, I have helped people work through and cope with such issues as:

  • Depression,
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Relationship/family issues
  • Abuse or bullying
  • Self harm

Hypnotherapy

I am a qualified hypnotherapist, accredited by the National Hypnotherapy Society. This form of therapy can help free people from harmful habits like smoking, or the paralysing effects of phobias. It can help with:

  • Weight management and eating disorders
  • Phobias e.g. fear of flying, fear of dentist
  • Stop smoking, or drinking, or taking drugs
  • Managing stress and anxiety

For some people, a single hypnotherapy session is enough to make positive changes in their life. For others,  a number of therapeutic sessions may be necessary.

Nature-based psychotherapy

Rather uniquely, I also offer outdoor therapy, where the counselling support takes place in parkland in Northampton. Working outside can be very beneficial for people who struggle with the intensity of four walls. It can engage the senses. It can unlock memories through sights, sounds and smells in a way that being in a room never can. I either walk and talk with clients, or we sit, or we do awareness exercises. You don’t need to be particularly fit, and outdoor sessions are mindful of clients’ needs.

What clients say:

“I learnt that the things in your head are not always as bad, like you thought they were. The time spent with Jane was the safest, most comfortable place to be to learn who I really was after 50 years.” SA, Northants

“To think what I was like when I first met you makes me realise how far I’ve come and that’s down to you”. Lou

“I’m grateful for the support you’ve given me this past six months. Before our sessions I felt so low and lost, but with the strength you provide, your clarity of approach and penetrating insight, I feel that you have helped me come a long way in a short period of time,”JB
