 What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and treatment for a variety of musculo-skeletal problems, involving the joints, bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues. This aids increase in circulation which helps resolve aches, pains and injuries and allows the body to function with the minimum of wear, stress and energy.

What happens during an Osteopathy treatment?

Osteopaths use a variety of osteopathic techniques, from deep soft tissue massage, trigger point treatment (using finger pressure or acupuncture needles), to joint articulation (rhythmic movement and stretching) and manipulation techniques, even medical acupuncture.

At your first appointment a full medical history is taken, your posture and structural conditions carefully examined dependant on the problem you present with so a diagnosis can be formulated. You will be required to remove area appropriate clothing but feel free to bring shorts/leggings and vest top as it may allow you to feel less self-conscious.

Working diagnosis and treatment plans will be discussed with you.

Sometimes X-rays, blood tests or urine samples are required in which case your Osteopath will write a referral request to your GP (with your permission). Treatment may also include advice on posture, diet and lifestyle.

Is it suitable for you?

Ideal for all age groups (babies, children, teenagers, adults, casual/elite athletes and the elderly)

Osteopathy emphasises overall health and the relation among the body’s nerves, muscles, bones, and organs.
